Building upon the awareness work of many national multiple-birth organisations in their own countries, ICOMBO recognized that the journey toward creating awareness of multiple-birth issues and challenges, needs and rights, is to collectively educate the public.
At the 2010 ICOMBO meeting in Seoul, South Korea – it was agreed that ICOMBO would be the lead organiser of International Multiple Births Awareness Week.
Further, this event would be held on the 1st week of November, bi-annually, starting in 2010. Themes will be chosen at the ICOMBO meeting held during the International Congress on Twin Studies, held every other year, in locations around the world.
For International Multiple Births Awareness Week 2010 the theme was to promote the newly updated Declaration of Rights and Statement of Needs of Twins and Higher Order Multiples. Communication materials were distributed to members of ICOMBO and the International Society on Twin Studies (ISTS), along with other national organisations with the intent of reaching a wide range of the public with these important educational pieces.
